"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." - Maimonides Learning the basics of cooking healthy meals is the first step to living a healthy lifestyle. My goal is to teach children cooking basics so they become healthy consumers in their future.
I teach elementary gifted students.
I feel very grateful to be able to work with students who love to learn and like to be challenged. My district is located just outside the St. Louis region. Over 60% of the student population relies on free and reduced breakfast and lunch service. Some of the homes of my students are located in areas that could be considered food deserts. I feel it is crucial to teach children about fresh foods and how they are beneficial to a healthy life. My goal and ultimate wish is to share healthy and easy recipes for my students to cook for their families at home.
The students will follow recipes to prepare and cook easy, fast, and healthy meals. Each meal will include fresh fruits or vegetables. Healthy grains and proteins will also be incorporated into the children's recipes. The donation of these ovens will give the students a chance to completely create a healthy dish from start to finish. They will learn how to plan and cook a meal that will include fresh and healthy foods. My students need 3 countertop ovens to plan and cook healthy meals.
After showing the children ways to prepare recipes, they will be given the opportunity to create their very own healthy recipes to showcase for a family dinner event later in the semester.
