Don't you enjoy snuggling up with a good book? So do my first graders! But we don't have a cozy spot to snuggle up on!
I am a first grade teacher in a high poverty elementary school.
I have both special education and regular education in my inclusion classroom. I have taught first grade for many years now and absolutely love it! I love their energy, enthusiasm and love for learning! We enjoy learning and growing together to be ready for second grade.
The school I teach at is a high poverty elementary school, where more than half of our population receives free or reduced lunch, and snacks each day. We have a very dedicated staff who works together to ensure that our students are provided with a positive learning experience.
My Project
This year I have moved into a new classroom, but we are lacking a rug! A classroom rug is absolutely essential to my first grade classroom. Although it may just seem like a rug...it is where the majority of learning takes place in my classroom.
This rug will play a huge role in helping my first graders develop a love for reading. I envision my students being able to select a book and relax on this rug when they are finished with their work. This is where students will learn about new characters, new places, and go on new adventures through amazing stories!
This rug will not only provide my students with a comfortable place to sit and read, but it will allow my students to go on new adventures with favorite characters to exotic places!
