My Students
This is my fourth year teaching in Maine! My 4th grade students are an energetic group of learners from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. They are creative and eager to learn.
Students are used to being self directed learners and quickly head to the iPad when they need to research a topic, write a report, reinforce math concepts, snap a photo, take a closer look with a microscope, and so much more!
We need to be able to utilize this technology but in a quiet way so others can also be learning!
Flexible and comfy seating is also very important in the classroom in order to make it more like a safe home environment. The saucer chair and stools give students options and control over their learning.
My Project
Our 4th grade now uses technology to offer support in all curricula areas. Our math curriculum has access to online activities that support the lessons. We currently have 5 iPads but need headphones for each of the devices so students can be more actively involved with their learning without disturbing others. We are also in need of some comfy seating.
My goal is to make my classroom as much like a comfortable home setting as possible while still promoting active learning for all.
These umbrella/saucer chairs make all of the kids want to curl up with a good book and read! The headphones will make the classroom a place where active learning is evident but quiet!
