My students need a comfortable place to sit and read. The area rug and five bean bag loungers/chairs will provide students with a place to come in, sit down, and relax and enjoy a book.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"The love of learning, the sequestered nooks,
And all the sweet serenity of books."
- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
What our library needs is a "sequestered nook"!
Located in a suburban are, the students who use this library are in grades 6-8 and 50% of them are on free and reduced lunch.
Some of the students have access to books in their home, but many rely on the resources in this library to further their reading experiences.
My Project
I have many avid readers who enjoy coming to the library and looking for books. We even have Book Clubs that meet weekly to discuss what we are reading. However, students don't come in the library to sit down read these books. There is not a quiet and comfortable place for them to relax and enjoy reading. The area rug and five bean bag loungers/chairs will provide students with a place to come in, sit down, and read. I believe this will encourage independent reading throughout the school.
Reading is an essential part of any student's academic career and facilitates lifelong learning.
Your donation will help create a "sequestered nook" for middle school students, providing them a place to curl up with a good book and foster a love of reading.
