Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are some of the most amazing people you could ever wish to meet. My co-teacher and myself are fortunate to serve as special education teachers, where we get to work on both academic and life skills with our students. They have already shown so much growth since the start of the school year, and we are excited to see how this project will continue to support them in their education. We have 17 students in our specific program that all have differing needs and are different types of learners. This project will help them learn the way they learn best!
My Project
My students, like most students, all learn in different ways. Some like to sit up, some like to walk around, some like to sit at a desk, and others like to just sit in a chair. As I have gotten to know them better, I have realized one thing missing from my classroom: a comfortable space for them to learn!
At this point I can tell my students feel safe as I always hope, but I would like to take it a step further and allow them to feel comfortable while they learn.
The items we are hoping to purchase are alternative seating options such as a ball chair, rocking chair, and beanbags as well as a colorful rug and organizational bins to allow us to create a new space where they feel both safe and comfortable to learn.
