If I could describe my art students in two words the words would be "Creative sponges!" My students love to create and they seem to absorb most of what I teach them. I know this because many remind me of things they learned and experienced in my class from the previous year!
I teach in a rural , lower middle class community.
The county's residents have less education and earn less than the average citizen in this state. Many of my students are poor and have limited resources and exposure to art at home.
Sometimes I am very surprised at the art that comes out of my classroom especially coming from such young minds with diverse learning challenges and levels. I create art lessons that accommodate students with ADHD, Dyslexia,Dyspraxia ,and gifted just to name a few.
It can be challenging meeting the learning needs of my students and the additional challenges of a school that is close to 65 years old, but I love these students and I am still teaching here after 30 years!
My Project
The materials that I am requesting will be used by my art students to create permanent paintings of endangered marine life. Acrylic paints , brushes and canvases are needed to achieve this goal as well as visual references that we can use on each student art table.
We will also incorporate recycled objects that have been collected from the students as a part of each painting .Quality adhesives will be needed for this as the bottle tops students have collected will be a permanent part of the paintings in addition paint .
My students will not only learn about recycling cleaning up our oceans and saving marine life but they will relay the information they have obtained through these wonderful group paintings!
