Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 8 and 9-year-old students. Most of them are English language learners full of energy and motivation to learn. However, many of them come from low-income families and many have social-emotional issues. I find myself stretching during the school year not only to cover their academic needs but also trying to compensate for some of their social-emotional needs. My day with them represents, in many cases, the only time they receive attention from adults.
My students would benefit from classroom materials that help them manage their social-emotional issues and handle anxiety.
My Project
I believe that by allowing students to use flexible seating, like the stools that I chose, it will help take off the edge when they feel anxious or jittery. By doing this it will be easier for them to maintain attention and remain focused.
Children need to move around and flex their muscles every so often.
It is very hard to remain sitting six hours a day. The stools I chose, help children stretch and move their body at the same time they remain on task and focused on their school work.
