Throughout the day there are 24 kindergarten scholars who come from a variety of economic and cultural backgrounds. They are creative, intelligent, kind, and compassionate. Some students come with challenges including ADD, ADHD, and autism, and it is my job to reach, teach, inspire, and love them all! My young students enjoy exploring our world, working collaboratively, and encouraging each other by cheering on each other's successes. They come to kindergarten with wide bright eyes and a spirit of wonder. They are my inspiration every day!
These students are our future, and my hope is to provide them with learning experiences to help support their development into the creative, empathetic, and collaborative leaders of tomorrow.
As a child I remember being so happy when my teacher passed out Scholastic Magazines for the class to learn about current events. Learning about the world around us through the non-fiction articles and colorful photos made learning to read enjoyable. When my own daughter brought home Scholastic News from school, she would curl up on my lap and we would enjoy rereading her magazine at home together continuing the discussion that the magazine had generated at school with her teacher and classmates. I would love for my students and their families to be able to get the same enjoyment from reading together as I have had reading Scholastic magazines in my lifetime.
Young children have a natural curiosity about the world around them, but finding nonfiction material at an early reading level is difficult.
Let's Find Out will provide my students with engaging and developmentally appropriate texts that my students will enjoy reading. The weekly magazines will include content in social studies, math, science and language arts. It will help my young scholars be critical thinkers and learners in financial literacy by helping me teach my students about needs and wants and how to be responsible with money. The magazine will also include articles about different professions, such as scientists and firefighters. Science Spin, a companion magazine to Let's Find Out, will be a welcome supplement to our monthly science experiments. Thank you so much for considering helping to put these colorful magazines into the hands of my youngest of readers!
