Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are living in a high poverty area of Milwaukee, WI. Students in this area come from a variety of backgrounds. Some come from broken homes, some are homeless or living with relatives, some do not have a bed they can call their own. Many times they come to school hungry and unprepared for learning. They are looking for love and the ability to feel that school is a safe place for them. They are asking for the same learning opportunities as their peers in non poverty areas.
My Project
This magazine will add to the core instruction that is provided in all subject areas. Let's Find Out" is a great resource to use for non-fiction experiences in Social Studies and Science.
Having materials like "Let's Find Out" helps children to relate learning to real life examples.
Many times teachers pay for some of these materials out of their own pockets, and that is a hardship for them, and there are just not school funds to pay for these things.
I am looking to use these materials in conjunction with my core instruction, and letting students take these magazines home so that they can share these materials with their parents and relay to them what they learned in school and tell them how it relates to their lives and the world around them.
