In a world filled with more obstacles than open doors, my students come to school each day filled with anticipation and an unmatched excitement for learning. They inspire me on a daily basis and I am so blessed to work with them each and every day. I teach a group of 22 English Language Learner kindergartners. They come from homes where English may not be the primary language spoken in the home. Our district services four surrounding Native American Reservations, and many of my students live nearly 1.5 hours away from the school and live in poverty.
They don't let those obstacles define them, and I refuse to let the obstacles stand in the way of them getting the best education possible
My Kindergartners are my entire world, and my job as their teacher is not just to teach them, but to love them and show them that if they fight for their dreams, their dreams will fight for them.
My Project
We are requesting My Feelings journals so that my students will have a safe place to tell me how they feel each day. These journals are an excellent and age appropriate way for my students to be able to begin each day by writing and drawing in a journal to tell me how they are feeling that day.
Coming from difficult lives outside of school and being English Language Learners, my students don't often have the vocabulary or language to tell me how, why, or even what, they are feeling on any given day.
These journals will allow them to start each morning by circling how they feel using facial expressions they know and then drawing a picture to tell me why they feel that way. This information can help me to get to know what is going on in their lives outside of school as well as adjust the day for individual students who may need more love and nurturing or support throughout the day if something difficult happened before they came to school.
