Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are 20 preschoolers ranging from ages three to five years old in a Head Start program that serves families in the Greater Englewood area of Chicago, Illinois. Our students love to ask questions and investigate new ideas through play and hands on experiences. As teachers, we try to provide those experiences and materials to support their love of learning.
Our students are curious, love to learn, and deserve materials to help them explore the world and expand their future!
My Project
We are asking for a variety of hands on and real life examples of insects for our students to learn about life science and the world around them! We will use the ant and ladybug farm to show our students the delicate work of nature that goes on often unseen underground, and plastic examples of insects to really let them get hands on with exploring the parts of insects and what they look like.
Our students are often not able to explore the real world around them because of safety in their neighborhood, and we want to bring nature to them in the classroom!
Additionally, we have found a variety of non-fiction books to give them scientific information about the insects we will be studying, in Spanish and English to meet the language needs of all of our stduents.
