Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title 1 school and I want to provide as many opportunities for my students to explore and engage in lessons that will leave a footprint that will last a lifetime. My students are respectful, energetic and eager and ready to learn! I throughly enjoy going to work because my students also look forward to attending my class. I am constantly brainstorming to provide engaging and innovative ideas to reach my students minds. Many of my students have expressed how they would love to travel. By providing VR goggles so students can explore and visit the ancient ruins, will allow them a glimpse of wonders of the world.
My Project
Students will learn about the ancient civilizations; Olmecs, Mayans, Aztecs and Incas. Students will research their culture and how it has influenced society today.
With a class set of VR goggles, my students will have the opportunity to engage in a hands on and virtual reality lesson that will set their minds to discovery mode.
As students investigate further about the pyramids, they will jump back in time while using the VR goggles and explore the pyramids and hieroglyphics as they enter the ruins of the ancient civilizations. Virtual Reality videos are available on many educational websites such as TeacherTube, NearPod and even YouTube.
As we go further into discovery mode and explore their foods, music, ruins, rituals and much more, students will have an opportunity to make a replica of one of the Latin Pyramids of an ancient civilization of their choice. These models will be displayed at our annual campus Expo.
