Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are challenged every day in school, but not only with academics. They do not have all of the necessary materials to help them gain all of the knowledge required of them in sixth grade science.
My students are 6th graders in Houston between the ages of eleven and fourteen.
They are motivated and intelligent but attend a low-income school that does not let them live up to their full potential. Ninety-five percent of my students receive free or reduced lunch. They come to school every day looking to learn.
My Project
The resources I am requesting will help my students understand very big concepts that are required of them as sixth grade science students in Texas. It is very difficult to grasp all of the necessary information just through reading a text book so these inquiry investigation will be so helpful!
The inquiry labs I am requesting are for plate tectonics, the scientific method, cell cycle, cell functions and cell theory. These are the most difficult parts of the curriculum for students and I believe these labs will help them to grasp the concepts because of their being hands-on!
It is so important that my students are able to use hands-on materials to understand basic science concepts.
These labs will help my students to really conceptualize cell theory and the scientific method!
