My students come from homes with very limited background knowledge and preparation for school. They have very few basic skills when they enter Kindergarten and are expected to meet and exceed the standards set for them. They do not have picture books at home or supplies to practice skills.
My students are wonderful little human beings.
Even with the daily challenges they face at home, they come to school each day with a smile and a positive attitude. Our school is one with a family atmosphere, a "home" to everyone where everyone shares ideas and activities between staff, students, and the community. Our staff and students work very hard each day to be the best we can be. No matter the background or home situation, we all strive for the same goal and accomplishments. My students encourage each other and try their best. They are ready to learn each day and in turn, I am ready to learn from them as I teach them.
My Project
This document camera will enable me to enlarge images and project them onto the screen for the students to see and interact. These images will be from story books, leveled readers, learning worksheets, 3D objects, etc. Anything that is put under the camera will be visible in color and 3D on the screen. Students will have the opportunity to manipulate objects which will increase their knowledge through visual and kinesthetic learning. Story books will come to life on the screen and the projection of the words will enable students to locate sight words, parts of speech, and letters which will strengthen their reading and writing skills. The math sheets and objects will be visible to all students as classmates take turns with the counters.
Exposing my students to this new type of technology will increase their understanding of what's available to them and get them ready for their futures.
This project will enable me to take the teaching supplies that I already have and increase the effectiveness of these supplies. I will be able to reach more kids more efficiently and be a better, more effective teacher to my Kindergarten students. This project will provide hands-on learning in a format that will prove to be fun and exciting.
