I count myself truly blessed to have the calling to be a teacher. I find my greatest joys in seeing young minds embrace learning and enjoy school. I take time to embrace the unique characteristics of my students and harness them for the powers of good. We learn actively and it is wonderful.

I have 20 students in my classroom from a variety of economic and cultural backgrounds. My classroom is the inclusion classroom for second grade, so we have a large range of abilities and unique individuals. I am proud to work in a school that strives to structure learning in a way that embraces all learners and encourages engagement in the learning process. Every day in my classroom we structure things in a way that allows freedom, risk taking, active engagement, and experiential learning.
My Project
With your help we can obtain some much needed new seating. Currently we have several chairs that have split and can make it difficult to sit comfortably. We are asking for four Hokki stools to begin the process of adapting our classroom to be more "user friendly". I love being active and hate to restrict students by making them sit in hard plastic chairs. Hokki stools will allow us the opportunity to wiggle and work in a productive manner without fear of flipping in a chair. These stools will allow students who need movement to be truly engaged in learning, the outlet needed. Students who seem to "dance" in their seats will now have the ability to move with purpose as we learn each day.

I have learned that when students feel restricted they seem to wilt, but when given the freedom to embrace their learning whole body they bloom. Please consider helping us make true engagement more attainable for our active learners.
