My Students
Hi! My name is Mrs. Matthews and I'm an excited first-year teacher in the Baltimore City Public School System. I have the pleasure of teaching a group of truly amazing students math science, and social studies. My fourth graders love to complete science experiments and I feel real joy watching them make new discoveries. They are a diverse group of learners that I want to feel challenged and empowered to solve problems and to explore the world around them. After studying static electricity, shocking their friends has become a new pastime.
My Project
Help me give my students the supplies they need to DO science and to fully engage with the science curriculum and materials. These materials will allow my students to engage in hands-on learning and explore different topics like sound, electricity, weather, etc. They will develop valuable engineering and problem-solving skills through tactile learning. The ability to touch, see, hear, and smell, and experiment creates lasting memories and helps the information "stick" in students' brains better. These materials will facilitate active learning and will increase student engagement and excitement about science and the world around them.
