Help me give my students materials to make Speech Therapy sessions fun and effective. Toys make practice engaging for younger kids (PK-1st grade) and self-check language activities are fun for older kiddos in the upper elementary grades.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with a wide variety of Special Education students from PK to 5th grade. I'm a speech pathologist, so I work with everything from articulation (those pesky s and r sounds) to language disorders (comprehension, grammar, etc.) to fluency and voice.
All of my students are fun-loving kids that look forward to coming to the speech room every week.
I enjoy seeing them meet their goals and learn how to communicate effectively with their teachers, peers, and parents. I love what I do!
My Project
It is well evidenced that play is a very powerful tool when it comes to learning. Toys make learning fun and engaging, specifically when it comes to practicing articulation skills that may become boring quickly. I've picked a few fun games that would make it more exciting to repeat the same sounds or words in order to win an ice cream scoop or an acorn for your squirrel.
Many of my students come from low-income households and don't have access to a plethora of fun and new games at home.
Being able to come to the speech room once or twice a week becomes something they really look forward to.
Other materials such as colored paper, finger paints, and dot markers make therapy sessions more engaging by incorporating arts and crafts. Having an easel/whiteboard will help bringing more visuals to sessions for children who struggle with auditory processing or receptive language.
I appreciate the help, and my students will definitely be very happy to see new, exciting things in the speech room!
