Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are going to change the world! They have big dreams, but as a school we sometimes lack the means to turn these dreams into reality. My students live in a vibrant community that is rich in culture, despite lacking economic resources.
My students are diverse leaders, leading change in the school and community as they advocate for LGBT, immigrant, women, and people of color’s rights.
I believe in my students, and am committed to providing them with the same resources that students at the most affluent schools receive.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of classroom resources that will help foster an inclusive community within my classroom. The world map will remind students that they are part of a global community. The WWI and WWII posters will help students think about themselves as historians, while the Rosie the Riveter poster will also remind them that women art part of this nation's story. The LGBT history book will be a resource to students as they seek information about a community that sadly, does not appear in their textbooks.
The Declaration of Independence and Constitution will be displayed so that students can remember the promises this nation makes to all of its citizens.
Lastly, the rainbow pins are for students who want to wear their pride outside of the classroom as a reminder to themselves, and the greater community, of the fact that LGBT history is American history.
These resources send a small yet powerful message that in our classroom, everyone is welcomed and respected, and all histories are valued.
