Help me give my students their best chance to benefit from individualized instruction by being able to work easily and effectively with their teacher in small groups!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I work with a wonderful, energetic and curious group of inner city middle school students who really benefit from active and engaged learning, especially in small groups.
These students are eager to learn and respond very positively to individualized instruction from their teachers.
All of them seem to value one-on-one attention and I am always touched by how grateful they are when someone takes the time to make sure they understand. "Oh, now I get it!" is something I never tire of hearing and I work hard to make sure it happens often.
One of the most important aspects of teaching is being able to pinpoint exactly where students are in their learning and then provide them with the type of instruction they need to move forward. Additionally, middle school students are quite self-conscious so any remedial-type instruction needs to be provided in a manner that feels private and respectful.
I have a large classroom with an area in the back that would allow me to use a kidney-shaped table and this requested portable dry erase easel to create a sort of mini-classroom within a classroom.
I will use this area to work with students who need additional help while other students work independently. Thus, every student will benefit from the arrangement. Those who are working independently won't be distracted by my work with the small group and those in the small group won't have to worry about being overheard by their peers.
