Help me give my students some counting materials to add to our math center in the classroom. Help us add the magnetic bug toss, unlock it number match, magnetic counting maze, and the 10 minute sand timers.
Our classroom is filled with 18 children from 3-5 years old. These children come from diverse and low-income families. Some children are experiencing their first year in a school setting while others are in their second or third year in preschool. The majority of the children will be going to Kindergarten next year and lack the skills they need to be successful.
The children have great imaginations, are creative, and have high energy to learn.
Our classroom is a safe and positive environment for them to use these amazing skills and gain many more! We plan to give them the one on one help they need, challenge those who need it, and make learning fun.
My Project
With new and more materials the children can get more excited about math! These materials can help them develop many skills while they play.
The Bug Toss activity can help them persist, solve problems, and develop their fine motor skills while they are trying to land on a number they might of called out or to see who can get the higher number.
The counting maze can help them show motivation and inventiveness on if they are going to sort them by color or just count them out. With the number locks and can show motivation to see if they can get the locks unlocked by counting out the right number and matching the numerals with the right lock. I think these are great activities to not only allow the children to have fun while counting and learning but they can use these activities in many various ways. The 10 minute timers are a great visual to help the children see when their time is up in that center so another child can go into the center.
