Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the privilege of working at such a diverse school. My students come from a variety of cultural backgrounds. We are a school located in the South Bronx with many challenges. Despite the community, our students are eager to explore and learn.
Our school is also considered a transitional school due to all the surrounding shelters.
I love working with this community. My students are faced with lots of challenges but somehow they make it to school each day with a huge smile. Seeing them being so resilient makes me want to work harder to provide them with all I can. My students are resilient, curious and creative. They love to read, create art, and use their imagination daily. Our classroom is a big ball of fun, where they come to create, explore and invent through new experiences.
As their teacher, it is my job to support them in all walks of life. When I enter into the classroom I become their friend, nurse counselor, mom, and so many other things depending on their arrival. I take pride in providing myself to my little ones and their families.
My Project
I hope all are well during this Pandemic. I am here asking for your donation to build an indoor classroom pantry. We will be participating in Blended Learning so we can practice social distance. We will have days that 9 students will be in the class learning while the other 9 will be doing remote learning then the groups will switch. This is why I would like to build my pantry as you may have read the majority of my students live in temporary housing or just struggling through these hard times. When you have your children home they tend to eat more as it is parents are struggling to keep food on the table. With the food like the ravioli, juices, cereals, crackers i would store them in the classroom and with the bags that I get I will put the food in their for the children to have when they do remote learning. I can send them home with breakfast and lunch, less worries for parents.
Please help me to help my children, this pantry would be very helpful to many.
