Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 4 core Physical Science classes range from 29-33 8th grade students. The vast majority of these students are from very socioeconomically poor backgrounds and very diverse locations. Students typically do not see their parents for days straight because the parents are trying to make ends meet with 2, or even 3, jobs. These children witness gangs, drugs, alcohol, violence, abuse, and situations that should never be inflicted upon children. The majority of the families do not speak English at all or speak very little English. This makes the connection between home and school extremely difficult. These students are constantly having to sacrifice everything, diminishing the time they can just simply be children. Meanwhile their parents are sacrificing the whole world in order for their children to receive a proper education.
My students are relentless, caring, humorous, and intelligent -- they bring their very best to school each day, trying to become someone for themselves.
My students want to be cared for, understood, listened to, and worthy of success. They need to be given the opportunities they truly deserve! They need to feel that they have something they do not have to sacrifice. Please help out my wonderful students!!
My Project
There are many students that have absolutely no access to technology at home. In school, we do not always have access to a computer cart and the computers take an extremely long time to login, which truly lessens the time we are able to use them. Therefore, my students are at a severe disadvantage when they enter high school and college, and join the workforce. In order to compete in a global society and change their writen future, these students need (and deserve) access to hands-on, authentic, engaging, real world, and technology rich lessons. To ensure the future success of my students, we will use the requested class set of Amazon Tablets as a constant tool to gain knowledge and practice of technology, deeply increase the engagement of learning, allow more individualized and differentiated instruction, increase project possibilities, and supply incredible science simulations and virtual labs to increase the comprehension of difficult science material. Students that are trying to learn English as they are working to understand the science content will use the tablets as a subtle way to translate. The tablets will be used at times as a reward for my students! The possibilities that the tablets will bring to my classroom are endless!
At the end of the day, the tablets will dramatically increase the success and happiness of my students!
