Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have never seen students with more inquisitive minds than that of first graders. I want to give my students the opportunity to explore, investigate, and build experiences in problem solving and teamwork. Science is such an important part of learning and children are just naturals at it!
I teach first graders in a high-poverty district in New Jersey where many of my kids come from disrupted families where opportunities for science exploration are rare.
They come to school everyday eager and ready to explore, investigate, and learn as all scientists do! They love coming to school because it gives them a safe place to explore and grow.
My Project
I have requested some Scholastic magazines for the class about the solar system and weather to reinforce lessons. I have also requested garden kits, solar system games and tornado tubes to bring these science lessons alive and to enhance the lessons. Children are natural scientists, and because of this, these materials will get my students excited and bring science to life!
My students are so enthusiastic when they arrive at school.
Being able to have these science materials available in the classroom will enhance learning and spark the children's natural curiosity.
