My students are adorable 2, 3, and 4-year-old special education children. My classroom contains a range of disabilities including vision, hearing loss, Down syndrome, and autism. Most come from low-income homes and all of my students have a communication delay and special education plan. They love being at school and adore interacting with manipulative and sensory materials. We are proud to be a Delaware Star 5-star facility and provide a high quality of instruction, but funding limits our access to resources. These children are starved for hands-on activities to help them learn.
My Project
Help me provide my classroom with books and toys to learn about different holidays throughout the year. Through stories and play, we learn how families celebrate the holidays. We discuss our diversity and cultural traditions. Included are some special candy cane treats and stamp rewards the children can earn for positive behaviors. The garden imaginative play and books will be ready for learning about spring.
These books and toys will add to our collection to allow my students to learn about Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day, Saint Patrick's Day, and other holidays celebrated in our community.
