Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 4 to 11 years old, with moderate to profound hearing loss, using hearing aids and/or cochlear implants to support communication by speaking and/or signing in American Sign Language. Most of my students are Spanish-English bilinguals and English language learners. They attend self-contained special education classes within a general education school to promote inclusion with typically-developing peers.

Our speech and language sessions bridge the home-to-school connection at each student's unique level of ability and supplementing each family's accessibility to educational resources.

My students are wonderful, hardworking students who deserve the best tools to help them succeed!

My Project

The new school year has just begun, which means our speech and language supplies are ready for a refresher and upgrade!

When my students interact with new classroom supplies, it enables them to pursue problem-solving, student-led inquiry and collaborative exploration that they can continue with their families at home.

The following supplies requested will help my students and their families in three central ways.

To support learning: We will use essential, long-lasting school supplies such as heavy duty sheet protectors, multicolor folders and markers to customize my students’ varied reading and writing levels so they can advance their levels by annotating laminated, color-coded texts for close reading and phonics practice.

To support creativity: We will restock art supplies to create craft projects where the sky is the limit, using markers, glitter, glue and art media (glass bead gel, gloss gel and matte medium) to create mixed media collages, image transfers and tactile art. We will use gloves, glue and Ziploc bags for STEM projects, such as slime experiments to test recipe ingredients and proportions. Extra supplies will be sent home so students can continue to create new works with their families. We will use the laptop stand as a slant board for students with visual processing needs to focus their gazes on the task at hand.

To support self-care: We will use cleaning supplies to refresh our work spaces and start off every day ready to learn in school and at home. We will use tissues, paper towels, sanitizers and wipes as needed to reinforce good hygiene habits. When we have our lunches on field trips, an on-the-go bottle of sanitizer goes the extra mile in keeping my students healthy and ready to explore!
