When you enter my preschool classroom, you will hear the sounds of students eagerly learning and growing each day. They are excited and eager to express themselves in a variety of ways. My students are four and five years old and are part of the Great Start Readiness Program. They come from all different types of backgrounds and cultures, but all live in Taylor, Michigan.
As a preschool teacher, I get the opportunity to be one of the first teachers these children ever have.
When they come into my classroom, they enter with many different emotions, like scared, excited, and nervous. I have made it my job to create an environment where they have their basic needs met and can challenge their young minds in a positive learning environment. Despite all my efforts to give my students the best of everything, our school and community are part of a low-income area where resources are very limited.
My Project
The students in my classroom are lacking fine motor strength and they love to build. We have mastered building with larger blocks, so it is time to bring in the minis. Many of my students love to create and build new things each day. In my classroom, I strive to incorporate STEM into my lessons and these legos are another way to achieve that goal.
These small building bricks will help build my students' creativity, social skills and most importantly strengthen their little hands.
