Help me give my students materials for a terrarium-building workshop that is focused on ecology concepts & doubles as stress relief + mental health improvement.

My Project

This project is meant to give students access to an educational extracurricular activity that will benefit their overall well-being and mental health - an after school Terrarium Building Workshop!

The supplies for this project will empower 30+ students to create and caretake their own individual terrarium planter ecosystems, which come with both academic and mental health benefits.

ACADEMIC BENEFITS: The concepts of Ecosystem Ecology, the Water Cycle, Photosynthesis, and Matter, Nutrient & Energy Cycling will be relied upon as I teach students how to create a unique and thriving ecosystem in their terrarium.

MENTAL HEALTH BENEFITS: This workshop will also serve as a relaxing venue for students to express their creativity as they design their terrariums. I believe that the act of putting intention into their ecosystem will relieve some stress & anxiety. I also believe this workshop will be a "gift that keeps on giving" since students will have to engage with their creation on a daily basis, growing and caretaking for their ecosystems. Our students have been so negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and they need stimulating experiences like this to look forward to, to keep them going, and to brighten their day.

Students will keep their terrariums in the classroom for a few weeks to ensure success, and then they will take them home when they feel ready to make that shift on their own. Thank you in advance for your donation towards this project.
