My students need access to Stem materials such as the Tech Machines Set with Storage and the Community Minifigure Set to build their creativity and exploration of engineering and building problem solving skills.
I work at a school where 61% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. My class is an integrated prekindergarten room, which consists of students aged 3 to 5 years old. The class consists of 30% students who have Individualized Education Plans. The students are learning through investigation, exploration, and building their curiosity through a science based curriculum every day. Their success is vibrant through their dedication, perseverance, and above all their smiles through the numerous unit-learning projects we have completed. Some ending projects include, creating a “save the millipedes” video that was broadcast on our daily news to the whole school, to working with Scholastic Books to publish a book about “Building Around the World.” My ultimate goal is to build every students’ love for learning, and to keep enriching my students’ lives to help assist them in building the best educational foundation I can.
My Project
Having these materials will allow the students to have access to hands-on materials to enrich our science and stem curriculum. My prekindergarten students are eager and curious to learn about the world around them and have shown a special interest in our building unit. We have had some wonderful presenters from our families that were able to show the class an array of different building tools and equipment.
The students loved discovering the construction tools and equipment, and they desire to learn about how to be expert builders.
Using tools the Tech Machines Set with Storage and Community Minifigure Set, students will be able to interact with one of their favorite toys to transform their dreams into machines. Through these Lego sets, students will not only be introduced to earlier engineering skills, but they will be learning to collaboratively work and problem-solve with other peers.
