Help me give my students LEGOS! Our STEM lab needs a LEGO all! The students will use the base plates to help construct a sturdy surface and BUILD the wall themselves! STEM at it's finest!
I will see approximately 350 K-6th grade students throughout the school year. These students will come to the STEM classroom 2 times a week for 45 minute sessions. We are a Title I school that has almost 90% free and reduced priced lunch rate. I have students that have been affected by the Flint Water Crisis. Even though my students have many socioeconomic hardships against them, they persevere. They come to school wanting to learn and to be better every day. My students love to learn through collaboration. They are eager to learn and to challenge themselves. My students are caring and work well together.

My Project
This student created LEGO wall will foster creativity and problem solving among my students in the STEM Lab as they build. The LEGO wall is an engaging way to get students thinking and designing. Students will be applying basic engineering and math skills while at the wall. They will be encouraged to ask questions, imagine possibilities, plan their builds, create, and improve their end product.
Research has shown that students learn when they create open ended projects.
By building on a Lego wall, students will be not only having fun, but they will also be experiencing important cognitive lessons in the engineering design process.
The students will take a very hands on approach to this Lego wall. They will be constructing the LEGO wall itself. Measuring, problem solving, and team work will all be used during the construction process!
