Help me give my students the opportunity to build their own computer and then learn how to code. The opportunity to actually build a computer takes students to a higher dimension of their learning.
I am blessed to work with phenomenal students who might be the future scientist to find the cure for cancer, our next great president, or our next impactful public school educator passionate about making the world a better place. Each day, my students re-ignite my own passion for learning about our incredible word while seeking to become not only problem solvers but also problem finders. As a school family, we strive to look at the world from a curious perspective, constantly seeking to question and improve everything from noisy pencil sharpeners to rolling desks.
As a teacher to gifted and talented students, my goal is to provide them with enrichment along with opportunities to dig deeper and explore topics wider.
Many times, our highest performing students receive the least classroom support because so much time is spent with struggling learners, and the assumption is that higher students "will be fine." However, I can only imagine what our highest performing students could do if given the opportunity. Whether this is a deep space exploration, building a computer from scratch, or actually starting a business, if given the opportunity my students will in fact make the world a better place.
My Project
At my school, we work with students on computer coding, which helps them with both logic and reasoning. While in this role they are merely consumers of technology, with the 3 Kano computers, my students will actually create and build the technology. They will also learn to code, collaborate with others in 86 countries, and design apps and games. This computer will enhance skills that will help my students throughout all of their coursework in future years. In addition, many of my students are hands on learners who will thrive in our science, technology and engineering world. By providing them with the ability to build their own Kano Computer, it will add a whole new dimension to our coding and programming courswork.
