This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Let's face it! Reading is boring...to our students, that is, when they don't get a chance to interact CREATIVELY and DIGITALLY with the text.

My high school students are primarily visual and kinesthetic learners who need various levels of engagement in order to participate in and process reading and writing instruction.

Due to their previous experiences in literacy instruction, they become bored easily and as a result, reading is a tenuous activity.

My Project

Therefore, I am requesting a camcorder and a multimedia projector so that students can INVENT digital book talks as they work in rotating reader's workshops. The camcorder will allow students to record original footage of their adaptations of a book they've read. In addition, they get to interface with others, record and work on editing video, and ultimately upload academic, literature-centered media. The projector will enable me to share and broadcast these videos to help discuss the text as well as create a 21st century approach to integrating technology in literacy instruction.

This is a great way to assess what students are learning, a fun way to inspire others to read great books, and finally, a modern method to host meaningful discussions about text outside of the amazing pen and paper process.
