Help! My students' enthusiasm for nonfiction reading needs a boost. Each day for one class period, we FOCUS on nonfiction reading. Students need engaging nonfiction books on topics that are interesting to them in order to grow as readers. Students selected these books to do just that!
My students are a diverse population of learners, from ages eight to ten, in fourth grade.
They are funny, energetic, and smart. Our school is a great community for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. We celebrate healthy habits, leadership, and excellence in education.
My Project
Book It into Nonfiction may be my project that makes the most impact yet; here's why: My students have self-selected each and every one of these books based on individual reading level and interests. These nonfiction books show the unique personalities of my students, with topics from World War II to cheerleading, from animals to video games, from art mysteries to physics. Each day, students must read self-selected nonfiction texts, and, at this point in the year, our classroom library choices are dwindling. Due to limited choices, students are losing their enthusiasm for this important learning time. I believe that inspiring a life-long love of learning and reading starts with providing engaging books and resources custom-fit to each learner, and these books are just what the doctor (excuse me, teacher) ordered. Thank you for turning our jeers into cheers. Your support of this project truly will spark a lifetime of learning in the bright and eager minds of my superstars!
