My students need yarn covered mallets for our large xylophones, yarn covered mallets for our soprano and alto instruments, and rubber mallets for the glockenspiels.
My students are eager to show their musical skill by broadening the number of instruments that can accompany a sung piece at a time. Our school has benefited over a number of years grant writing campaigns in order to have a large number of xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels of various ranges at our disposal. However, we don't have enough mallets at our school to use all the instruments at once in an accompaniment capacity for concerts, school assemblies and such.
Playing melodic percussion as a group along with singing helps students develop harmonic skills that are essential in order to be successful in secondary ensembles.
Our school building is comprised of over 50% free and reduced-price lunch recipients, so this will give an opportunity to some students that they might not have otherwise. Your donation would help us to ensure that all students get these skills and the experience of being part of an ensemble as part of the guaranteed K-5 curriculum, regardless of what their future musical experiences might be.
My Project
This is a project to help fund additional mallets and supplies to make it possible for our melodic percussion instruments to be used as an ensemble. This will ensure that all students K-5 will get an ensemble experience as part of their elementary experience. This makes sure that our over 50% free and reduced-lunch recipient clientele gets ensemble experience even if their budget is prohibitive to them participating in a secondary ensemble. Students will also be able to have more performance opportunities at school programs, school assemblies, and other such venues as this would be a high-in-demand ensemble. Please help fund this great experience that will help every one of my students.
