Mrs. Grimsley from Xenia OH is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need ten books on empathy, making friends and sharing, so they can listen to them being read aloud during my character education lessons in the classroom.

I am the school guidance counselor for a kindergarten through fifth grade elementary school. My students come from various backgrounds and cultures. Most of my students come from low economic situations and all of the students at my school receive free breakfast and free lunch. Some of the students at my school also are experiencing being homeless. This means that they often lack the items needed to meet their basic needs.
I would like the 450 students at my school to be able to have the opportunity to learn, explore, discover, and most importantly thrive in the classroom through the various programs used within the classroom.
I support the teachers at my school by providing monthly character trait lessons in the classroom. I also provide one on one and group counseling to students who need a little extra guidance. The students at my school are awesome and I love working to help meet their physical, social and emotional needs.
Elementary aged students learn best when they have concrete examples of the concepts being taught. Read aloud books accomplish this because students are able to learn about concepts, in a non threatening manner, through stories about make believe characters. Each month, I go in to each classroom at my school and teach the students about an important character trait. I love to incorporate read aloud books into each lesson.
I am requesting ten excellent read aloud books about empathy, making friends and sharing, which will be used to teach 500 students about these important character traits.
As I teach each classroom of kindergarten through fifth grade students, I will utilize these books as read alouds to introduce and help the students explore positive character traits. By donating to this project, donors will help create a positive learning environment, so students can focus on academic learning, instead of being worried about unkind students and bullies. Students will be encouraged to choose to share and be friendly. These character traits will help students become adults who are kind to others and share what they have.
