My Students

My students come from a rural area with various economic backgrounds. Within our school community the majority of students are on free and reduced lunch. For some students our classroom is the place where they feel safe, loved and appreciated.

The majority of my students are thoughtful, eager to help and excited to be a part of our learning community.

My students come to school eager to learn and are grateful for the opportunities that exist in our district. Although we are in 4th grade, we tend to need opportunities to help release energy and increase focus. My students have requested that we try and include some flexible seating options in our classroom to help with our needs!

My Project

The standing desk and stools will be flexible seating options for students when they realize they are struggling to focus.

The standing desk will give the students an alternative to the typical student desk.

This will allow students to stand and have a place to complete work while I am giving direct instruction.

The stools will be used as an alternative to the basic classroom chair. Students will be encouraged to use the stools at their desks, while working in cooperative groups and at the guided reading table.

Providing students with flexible seating options will help improve focus and will also help with releasing some of the students' bottled up energy.
