My students come from a diverse situations. We have a lot of students who are new to our district every year. They come from families that range from very involved to those who have are struggling to help. I have tried to design my class and grade level to feel like family. We want the students feel safe and comfortable in our class. My students have so many needs, that we need to design our day and classroom to fit many of their basic needs.
My kids are always in motion. Giving the students an outlet for this need to move is important to learning. I want to be able to give my students ways to use this in a positive manner. By providing students flexible seating, they are able to channel their energy while still learning in 4th grade.
Students who struggle to pay attention often need an outlet for movement.
When in motion, these students can concentrate better on the task at hand. Giving students the option to change their perspective in the classroom is important. When allowing them to work in a space that allows them to move, stretch, and relax, they are able to complete their work in a more timely fashion.
