Help me give my students new materials for our dramatic play center. The pretend and play toddler kitchen and dishwasher safe plastic baskets would be a wonderful way for them to act out experiences from everyday life.
As students in low income/single-parent family homes, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. To combat the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
The students in my room like to move; they love to read and love lots of positive attention.
Many are students with a range of disabilities, emotional disturbance, and specific learning disabilities. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may deprive them of life experiences many of us see as "typical." From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
The pretend and play toddler kitchen and dishwasher safe baskets will make a difference in my students' learning by giving them ways to be creative, self express, and act out experiences from their everyday lives. This will give them an important emotional outlet.
Dramatic play encourages children to resolve conflict, consider alternative perspectives and recognize the various roles and responsibilities individuals have in our society.
Dramatic play can also increase reading comprehension. Kids often choose to act out scenes from their favorite storybooks. Dramatic play allows children the ability to process their inner thoughts and emotions externally. Lastly, dramatic play also teaches the students to self regulate as they tend to be highly motivated to follow rules and stick to the roles of the play.
