Mrs. Brown from Detroit MI is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need this visual presenter so they can see and present work in progress for group student lead evaluation.

Just because we have learning difficulties, don't count us out! We are middle school students living in a large urban area, who are greatly affected by economic struggles of our community. We have special learning needs which impact our ability to perform at the same level as our peer groups, especially our ability to express ourselves in writing. Each day we come to school eager to learn from each other and our teachers in order to make our lives better.
Our school has recently been plagued by a series of break-ins which in turn has limited the technology available to us. In addition, budgets for technology have been almost entirely eliminated by the district as a means of saving monies. Despite this students show a great desire to share each others' work and collaborate to learn from each other. In larger group settings this becomes impossible, because of a lack of basic materials including the ability to reproduce work to share with each other, due in large part to the destruction on the main copying machine during on of the building break-ins.
Having a portable document camera will allow us the opportunity to share writing projects with the class and participate in the process of peer evaluation. As special needs students we too need the skills of peer evaluation, in order to help us build better writing projects and succeed on state mandated examinations. Through use of the document camera we can evaluate each others' work and make on the spot corrections to produce grade level quality writing pieces.
Your help will make it possible for my students to share their work with their peers and promote students' ability to receive and provide constructive criticism. Students are often unsure of the quality of their work or get lost in the writing process. This document camera will allow them to have immediate feedback from myself and their peers as they are involved in the process. Your donations to this project will give my special education students the same opportunities as their general education peers in terms of being able to reflect upon their writing as they are in the writing process. My children's self esteem will get a boost as they realize their abilities, and the abilities of their peers as they engage in group assessments.
