Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school with a high population of ESOL students. I am constantly amazed by my students' desire to learn and the amount of determination they have to succeed. One of the best ways I have found to provide for all of my students' diverse needs is hands-on learning and technology integration. Technology is able to bring to life many of the abstract concepts that my students are learning about and allows them to interact with a concept, instead of merely reading about it.
Students who are actively engaged are able to learn more and at a deeper level.
Technology allows us to tailor the education to meet the educational and cultural needs of the students.
My Project
My classroom currently has 36 florescent lights shining down on it. My students need light filters to reduce the negative effects of the fluorescent light such as headaches and eye strain. The filters immediately change the tone of the classroom climate and will allow me to choose between the calming blue or more energizing white depending on the needs of the day. My students have also asked that I host a Disney/ Pixar club next year so I will be creating a Disney themed classroom and need supplies. The Disney room reaches across many cultures as my ELL students are familiar with the characters as well and will help to create the safe welcoming environment they need to succeed.
