This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are constantly faced with challenges most people couldn't imagine. Despite the constant struggle, these students come to school every day, ready to learn. I am looking to keep their love of learning alive and bright.
The students are in 2nd grade and love to learn about everything.
Their curiosity is strong, and I aim to keep it that way. All students receive free lunch based on their living situations, and most students live in a single parent household. I focus on the positives in their lives during the school day, especially since most students don't have much positive in their lives.
I cannot control what happens beyond the school day, but I know I can help keep their spirits alive and engage them in hands-on learning.
My Project
Coming from a low socioeconomic background, my students are severely low in reading. Most students only have a first grade reading level by the middle of the school year. Many students don't have access to books outside of the school year. My goal is to allow each student to have access to as many books as they can.
Guided reading is the main approach to becoming a fluent and confident reader.
The collections I have picked out will interest my students and will give them the confidence needed to become a strong reader.
Books that help develop skills, such as grammar and social skills, are important for children to enjoy and read. These books make learning a valuable lesson easier and more fun. The books give concrete examples students can discuss in a safe manner and environment.
