My middle school students come from a rural area in South Dakota. We live in a small close-knit farming and ranching community. We have a very small science department, and many students have had limited science exposure when they come to my classroom.
I have diverse learning needs throughout my classroom, but all of my students are eager, enthusiastic, and innovative despite our low socioeconomic and Title I status.
They enjoy collaborative, hands-on projects, and working together to accomplish a goal.
My Project
Lighting matters -- and with your help, we can increase the amount of natural light students in my room will be exposed to. A science classroom is a perfect place to have brilliant cloud formations on our ceiling.
Fluorescent lighting can have a distinct impact on concentration and moods.
The fluorescent lights found in most classrooms are a common trigger for headaches. Many students complain their eyes feel tired or sore. I often have students ask to leave the lights off during class.
Cloud formations are also a part of our earth science curriculum. We study Earth's atmosphere and weather each year. Having clouds on our ceiling will bring outdoor science into our space.
With your donation, we can transform the light in our classroom to fun and relaxing cloud formations.
