This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My curious, motivated, and inspiring students are eager to learn! My school qualifies for universal free breakfast and lunch due to over 80% free or reduced-price lunch status. Our students and their families live in an economically disadvantaged community. My first graders and I are part of a 4 classroom team which will loop together through second grade. Over the course of two years, my students and my teacher colleagues and I will have countless opportunities to learn from each other.
Our class motto is We never, never, never, never, never give up!
This means we all work together, ask questions, and think hard every day.
My inspiring and inspired students appreciate the generosity of donors who help us obtain the resources we need.
My Project
I'm currently preparing my classroom for the return of my students. They were first graders with me last year and will return for another year with me as second graders. I'm thinking about setting up our classroom to be as comfortable as possible.
The addition of table top lanterns and light filters for our overhead lights will definitely create a more relaxed mood.
We regularly engage in Flashlight Friday and wear headlamps or use battery operated candles to do some relaxed reading and I'm always aware that the lower light level seems to put everybody in a more mellow frame of mind. Spending a year together means I have a deep understanding of the needs of my learners and I know that many of my more active scholars will definitely benefit from these lights and filters.
