I am an elementary teacher so I lay the foundation of learning and encourage my students to explore and wonder. What makes my students special is their curiosity, positivity, and love.
A great education beings with an open mind and a full stomach.
At my school more than 76% of the student body receives free or reduced price lunch. During weekends and holidays are school provides meals and food backpacks to take home.
Most of my students face obstacles at home that are beyond their control. These struggles range from single family households to low income. But, everyday when I greet them at the door, my students show up with smiles on their faces ready to learn.
My Project
For a while now I have been looking for a new and exciting way to engage my students during math and literacy stations. I believe I have found the answer with this item. In most schools light tables stop being used in Pre-K or Kindergarten (unless you're Special Ed). But I would like to continue to nurture early childhood practices in First grade as well.
We are requesting an extra science and exploration center using the power of light!
With the power of light my students will be able to explore new educational manipulatives while practicing and developing math and literacy skills. This item will also give me the freedom to promote play and social behaviors while providing educational tools.
Thanks to the Lakeshore expanding light table selection, I can help impact my student’s education by their ability to manipulate counters, translucent numbers, letters and words, and explore science related topics.
In math students can sort shapes, count and sequence numbers and create patterns using translucent blocks. In English students can create words using translucent letters or practice writing. In my district first grade covers light as a 4th quarter skill and having this item in my science station will be beneficial when discussing and expanding on the idea of light.
With your help this light table will spark the joy of learning and engagement in my class while promoting educational needs. Thank you!
