My students are creative, energetic, caring, passionate, collaborative, and so much more! They love learning and being apart of our school community. They are eager to learn and be role models for the younger students at our school. My students give me so much during the day, and I want to be able to help them get the learning environment they deserve in order to be successful at school.
My students are from a small rural community outside of a larger metropolitan area in Wisconsin.
My Project
Research has proven that the amount and type of light in a learning environment has a direct correlation with how students learn.
My classroom has a very intense vibrant florescent lighting.
While this may seem like a good thing, it actually significantly impacts students that have a sensitivity to light.
By incorporating pendent lights around the room and rope lighting around the front board, our room will still have sufficient amounts of light, but will not negatively impact my students' ability to focus.
Studies have done comparisons with lights in a classroom and it is well documented that natural lighting is best in a classroom. Unfortunately, I have very limited natural light. Therefore, I feel by incorporating this softer light option, students will have a better opportunity to be successful in the classroom. Students with sensory needs and aversions to bright lights will also have a greater success rate of staying in the classroom.
