My students need a light table and manipulatives where they can use manipulatives to count, build, trace, learn about scientific principles of light energy and receive a total sensorial learning experience.
I have a high energy class of 20 preschool students.
My children are from rural low-income home.
These children were tested and determined to be at risk by our school district. They use 4k as a head start to be successful in kindergarten. They are eager to learn, and like little sponges learning all that I have to teach them. Our school is a district-sponsored child development center with 6 four-year-old classes and 1 preschool special education class.
It is a small school with a close-knit family community feeling.
My Project
In Pre-Kindergarten, sensory play is very important. The light table adds a whole new element of exploration. Manipulatives look different with light beneath them. For example, the colors are more vivid. Light tables can be used for literacy, math, music, writing, and science. A light table will add a new area of interest to our classroom as well expand creativity and learning opportunities where the children can explore pattern, shape, form, color, opacity and color mixing. Light tables provide a calming influence and invite sensory exploration which provides motivation and engaging attention for sustained periods of time. Children can expand their learning in a whole new world of discovery as they play and learn with this new tool.
