Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hardworking, thoughtful, capable, driven and enthusiastic in learning. My students want to be entertained; they want to have fun, but above all, they want a good education. These kids come in every day eager to consume meaningful and thought-provoking material. I want to provide students with information that makes them think and motivates them to want more. Information that also challenges them and tests them to the very limit of their capabilities. My students are in middle school and they’ve seen other inspiring teachers influence their lives. Having said that, they want something different; specifically, they want a different way of learning and variety of teaching methods. I know that my class is capable of handling it.
My Project
I teach in a really old school, the building is over 50 years old. Of the four walls in my class, I only have power outlets on two of the four walls. The power cord, power strip, and cord covers are for the purpose of allowing power access throughout the room. This is to allow supply things like the pencil sharpener, phone, projector, etc. to be connected anywhere in the room.
I think it's important to give students, from not as privileged neighborhoods, to have equal access to basic things.
Normally when I teach I turn off the lights to use the projector. I'm including the lamp so that some parts of the class are illuminated. Some students prefer to write and work in the light while the projector is on.
