Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are unique because of the diversity found within our classroom. Currently, I teach inclusion/ELL and on level English 9th and 10th. Serving approximately 150 students, inclusion education is the integration of special needs students with the general population.
My classroom is a place for diverse students to learn and grow into young adults with the skills to thrive in our ever-developing world.
These students come from a variety of cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our school is almost all low income with students from all around the world. Our goal is to provide every possible advantage for our students to develop the skills necessary to become successful.
My Project
My students need fluorescent light filters in our classroom to create a sensory space to help tune out the stimuli in their world. I work with a diverse group of special needs and general education students in a high poverty area. I have students with vastly different needs within the classroom. The current lights in the classroom often negatively affects students: headaches, sensory issues, eye strain, and more.
The fluorescent light filters will create a calmer, more natural setting for all who visit our classroom and will assist in making a more welcoming place for students with varying different needs.
