This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a third-year teacher this year. I am excited to be teaching and my class is very diverse. We are a high-poverty, low-income school. Many of our students don’t have access to an area of their own to feel safe and comfortable. I want them to have this space in our classroom if they need a little extra area to go to during the day. I think centers and a comfortable space with optional seating will enhance the safe atmosphere in our classroom. Thanks for thinking of our class!

My Project

Almost every classroom across the country is full of fluorescent lights. The covers we are asking for will create a calm and soothing environment by decreasing glare and flickering from overhead fluorescent lights. They can also reduce harsh glare and flickering lights that can cause eye strain, headaches, and even anxiety. Many of my students and myself included complain of headaches. We are a very active classroom and take many breaks but I feel this adjustment will make my students more calm and comfortable. I will try any recommendation that will benefit my students. I’m constantly turning off one set of lights during the day to reduce stress. This will help us keep the lights on and learn!
