This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My first graders come into the school year full of huge smiles, a few tears, and a plethora of hope. We are located in a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri. Our students are blessed to have a classroom full of diversity. Six of my students are English language learners while the other half of the class is mixed between black and white students.
Each culture, each child has something to teach the other.
While more than 80 percent of my students are considered low income, we strive for stability and comfort during school hours. We learn from one another, we depend on each other, and we become a family for the incredible 10 months that we are lucky to spend together.
My Project
These simple toys will give my 6-year-old students the play they deserve. The objects and manipulatives, such as Block Play People, will give familiarity to see themselves in their imaginations and creativity.
These toys represent their families, their images, and their amazingness.
Please help them create the incredible. Let their love of school start now. My students come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, they need to be able to feel at home in their classroom. They should be able to see, hear, and discuss themselves with one another comfortably. Learning from each other is a huge benefit that they have while spending time together and playing.
