My Students

I am a Kindergarten and 1st grade teacher at an International Baccalaureate Title I school in Houston, TX. This year, I have 24 Kindergarten students. At Briarmeadow, we loop which means I will have the same 24 students next year and teach them 1st grade! I have an incredibly diverse group of students culturally, racially, and in personality. Many of my students are immigrants and English Language Learners. The students in my class speak 9 different languages! We learn so much from each other.

My students love to try new things and take risks.

Though they may be tiny, they are readers, mathematicians, scientists, writers, engineers, social activists, and dreamers! They are ready to take on the world.

My Project

My students are lucky to be at a school that values play and views it as a critical part of child development. Every day they get the opportunity to engage in free play time. We need new play materials to keep them engaged in purposeful play.

Purposeful play helps children develop social, emotional, language, and academic skills.

These new materials will help my students learn how to be thinkers and find the courage to take safe risks. When children play, they become problem solvers. The skills children develop through playing lays a foundation for future success in school and beyond!
